Technological process: hot-rolled sheets are large flat metal strips that are conveniently packaged in industrial skeins. They are made of ordinary, light-alloyed steel and are made from slabs that have the appearance of fairly large plates from 75 to 600 mm thickness and with a width of 2-5 m.

During the heating of the billet-slab, scale is formed, as well as a large amount of embers and debris that settle on the surface of the hot-rolled product. Mechanically, it is possible to get rid of only part of the scale, the rest remains unchanged. This is one of the main differences between hot-rolled and cold-rolled products.

Technical characteristics: Hot-rolled steel does not have a very pleasant appearance, so it is rarely used for external cladding. The production technology of the hot-rolled product is rough, so it is possible to obtain strips with a thickness of at least 2 mm. (for comparison, cold rolled sheet can have a thickness of 0.35 mm.) this limitation exists due to the peculiarities of the expansion of metals while heating. On the positive side, the production of one hot-rolled strip requires a minimum of time and equipment, so the cost of such rolled metal will be lower than cold-rolled. There are the following parameters of the hot rolled sheet:

• By thickness: thin sheet – 0.4 – 4 mm., thick sheet 4-160 mm.
• Dimensional accuracy: increased accuracy – class A, normal – class B.
• According to the type of edge processing: uncut edge , cut edge .
• According to the accuracy of the plane of the sheet: very high , high , improved, normal.

The main areas of application: the technical characteristics of this type of rolled metal allow to use it in the production of parts and complex structures, which do not have strict or high requirements regarding appearance. It is especially in demand in construction during the production of metal structures, it can be used as a wall and roofing material, it is widely used in the manufacture of pavilions and warehouses. Also, this rolled metal is intended for the production of pipes, channels, corners. The interest in it is in such industries as machine and instrument engineering. It is used to make parts for cars, locomotives, steamships, spare parts for military equipment, underground pipes, hinged structures for industrial workshops and much more.
